Jason Yam

Jason Yam | Founder & Director

Jason is the Founder of HKBA. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 2005 and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. He earned a degree in Sports Science and Leisure Management and a teaching diploma in physical education. As Director, Jason keeps coaches engaged and ensures players are improving and having a positive experience. 


His high-level basketball experience comes from playing six seasons of professional basketball with Winling Basketball Club and, representing on the Hong Kong National team. Named as one of Hong Kong's street basketball legends at the documentary screening of "Doin' It In The Park," Jason has over fifteen years of playground success in Hong Kong.

Zach Rice

Zach Rice | Chief Operations Officer & Coach

Zach is in his fourth year with HKBA. He is the Head of HKBA Operations and coach. From footwork and balance to shooting and passing, Coach Zach stresses fundamentals. Zach brings a passion for the game shown by  his high energy and enthusiasm in which he coaches.

Mitchell Chu

Mitchell Chu | Head of 1-1 Program & Coach

Mitch is in his fourth year with HKBA. As a rising basketball skills development coach and strength & conditioning specialist, Coach Chu has a strong passion for the game of basketball and strives for knowledge of the fundamentals. He is committed in helping young players develop skills, athleticism and knowledge to reach their full potential through hard work and dedication. With a strong work ethic and drive, Coach Chu prides himself on training hard to become better as a coach & athlete by spending countless hours in research and working on his game. He hopes to inspire young athletes and aid them in achieving success by providing the tools they need to become an elite basketball player.

Richard Bradstreet

Richie Bradstreet | Coach

Coach Richie is in his second year with the HKBA family. He was born and raised in New York, USA, where his earliest memories involve a basketball and a hoop. He has been successful at high levels of competitive sport, both in the United States and in Hong Kong, where he currently plays in Division 1 of the Hong Kong Basketball Association. Competitive, but approachable, Coach Richie stresses fundamentals and the power of habit, believing that "you play how you practice." His method focuses on detail, consistent effort, and having fun, and he always strives to teach lessons that have practical applicability to life outside the court.

Steve Choy

Steve Choy | Coach

Coach Steve is now in his fifth year with HKBA. He has over fifteen years of high-level playing experience in the Hong Kong division 1 league. Steve has played on teams for Fukien, Winling, and South China. He has had the honor of representing on the Hong Kong National team in international tournaments. Steve also has two years of head coaching experience in the Hong Kong division 1 league.


Steve is also an experienced personal trainer with more than ten years as a professional in the field.

Coach Steve is married with two daughters.

Derek Cheung

Derek Cheung | Coach

Coach Derek is in his second season with the HKBA family. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has been around the game since he was little, Coach Derek brings a unique skill set to HKBA that covers coaching as well as on the business side. Derek has played at the high school level as well as worked for basketball organizations both at the college and pro level for The University of Arizona and the Atlanta Hawks. Also, he has held positions for teams in the MLB and NHL.


Coach Derek has a profound respect and passion for the game and expects the same from his players. He believes in sound fundamentals, collaborative teamwork, a positive attitude and a competitive spirit to continuously improve.
